FAUVE PORTRAIT

Fauvism is the style of les Fauves (French for "the wild beasts"), a loose group of early twentieth-century Modern artists whose works emphasized painterly qualities and strong color over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism . The paintings of the Fauves were characterized by seemingly wild brush work and strident colors, while their subject matter had a high degree of simplification and abstraction.[    Wikipedia

JPG CHALLENGE Christmas ornaments.

SENTIMENTAL.   This is an ornament my parents bought in NYC in 1965 on their 10th anniverary. They were married for 50 years.   My father had red hair as does the little boy in the ornament. You can tell they bought it to remind them  of their love for each other . We keep it on our tree to remind us of our parents when they were young.

UGLY. My wife's brother gave this slug ornament to us a a joke. It is hideous and so over the top it's funny.
ASSIGNMENT FOR XMAS HOLIDAY. TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR TREE ORNAMENTS. 4 CATEGORIES. 1. OLDEST 2. SENTIMENTAL 3. PRETTIEST 4. UGLIEST.   POST ON BLOG. WITH A STORY.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Your blog entries will be graded for  all work posted and how you explain your process.

IN A PARAGRAPH FORM -  CREATE AN ARTIST STATEMENT  FOR EACH WORK THAT ADDRESSES THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

·         WHAT WERE MY GOALS AND INTENTIONS IN THIS ARTWORK?

·         HOW DID I ACCOMPLISH THEM?

·         WHAT IS MY PAINTING ABOUT? (reflected light? Composition? Texture of surface? Dramatic shadows? Backlighting? Interesting markmaking? Smoothness ? etc…)

·         WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGE I HAD TO FACE?

·         HOW DID I MEET THAT CHALLENGE?

·         WHERE DOES MY PAINTING REALLY WORK?

·         WHAT ARE SOME THINGS HAVE I LEARNED THAT I CAN BRING INTO MY NEXT PAINTING? (ANY THING FROM PAINT MIXING TO NEW COMPETANCIES)

·         WHAT MENTOR CAN I NAME THAT HELPED ME AND WHAT DID I LEARN FROM THEM?

·         NAME ANOTHER ARTIST IN THE CLASS AND DESCRIBE SOMETHING YOU LEARNED FROM THEM (EVEN IF YOU DIDN’T DO IT)
